The Living Room
The Living RoomI wonder who lives here?

I entered several images into the 2016 Center for Photographic Art International Juried Exhibition. This year’s juror, Linde B. Lehtinen, PhD., is the Assistant Curator of Photography, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Dr. Lehtinen is an art historian specializing in American and European modernism with an emphasis on the history of photography and mass advertising culture. She has worked in both the education and curatorial departments for several museums, including The Art Institute of Chicago, J. Paul Getty Museum, and Skirball Cultural Center. She reviewed over 1,300 images that were submitted and selected 45 to be displayed in the gallery and another 45 to be included in an online gallery and the catalog.

I am proud to announce that my image, “The Livingroom” was selected for the online gallery. To have one of my images selected by this juror from over 1,300 to be part of a 90 image exhibition is a great honor.

The Center for Photographic Art set up an online gallery of the 45 gallery images and the additional 45 online gallery images. You can see all the images by clicking here:

Oak Creek at Red Rock Crossing

Oak Creek at Red Rock Crossing 2016

One of my favorite locations to photograph in Sedona, Arizona is at Red Rock Crossing off of Upper Red Rock Loop road. It has an amazing view of Cathedral Rock in the background. It’s a very popular location and I was fortunate there were no other people there when I made this image.

Geologically, it is carved from the Permian Schnebly Hill formation, a red bed sandstone formed from coastal sand dunes near the shoreline of the ancient Pedregosa Sea. The summit elevation of Cathedral Rock is 4,921 feet. An older name (no longer used) was “Court House Rock.”

The Darkroom Gallery hosts juried exhibits providing opportunities for photographers from around the world to have their work evaluated by qualified jurors for display in their Vermont gallery near Burlington, on their web site and published in exhibit catalogs.

The theme of this exhibit is Haunted. “We all have things that seem to follow us around… memories, artifacts from the past, our successes and failures, objects and relics with special meaning, fleeting glimpses from the corner of an eye. And for us photographers there are the unexplained flashes of light, streaks, and ghostly figures that sometimes appear in our images that sometimes defy logical explanation.” They asked for the photographer’s interpretations of what it is that we find to be haunting.

The Juror Was Russell Joslin who has worked primarily in photography beginning in the early 90s. His work has been internationally published and exhibited in numerous solo and group shows.

Hands – A Photographic Series Presentation

Hands - A Photographic Series

Over the past several months, I have been publishing individual images to be part of my Hands Photographic Series project. I have completed the first ten images of this series (plus one for the cover image).

I compiled them into a photo presentation using Adobe’s “Spark” software. I included some additional comments about each describing why I chose that image, or what I felt when I captured that image. The presentation is best viewed on a laptop, desktop or a tablet (in landscape orientation). Click on the image below and a new window will open for you with the presentation. Then, scroll down to view the images.

After you view it, please come back to this page, scroll down and leave me your comments. Please share this with your friends and family. Thank you. …Marty

Tradition

Tradition” is the tenth image in my “Hands” Series.

Food, in the end, in our own tradition, is something holy. It’s not about nutrients and calories. It’s about sharing. It’s about honesty. It’s about identity.Louise Fresco
