Rocks at Pinnacle Cove 2

We went to Point Lobos yesterday with our friends Susan and Randy and had a wonderful hike and photo taking session. It was a magnificent day, sunny and warm. There was very little wind and the ocean was very clear and deep blue.

I started to work on my photos as soon as I got home. I spent some time shooting the waves hitting the rocks and used a 10-stop neutral density filter and long exposures to allow the water’s movement to blur. I’m still working on my technique but it sure is fun to experiment with it.

There is a trail at Carmel Valley Ranch that winds up into the hills overlooking the Ranch. The hills are lined with a forest of very beautiful, large old Oak trees. As you hike up the trail, there are some great views down onto the Ranch property and the area where our home is located (photo to be posted next).

Rustic Beauty in the Valley

Marty CohenArchitecture, Carmel Valley2 Comments

Here is an exterior photograph of of a house designed and built by Roman Kristl of R. Kristl Konstruction, Inc., located in Carmel Valley. As I described in yesterday’s post of Felix, the cute cat who watches over things here, the setting is beautiful. There are many old Oak trees on the property with spacious areas outside for gardens and relaxation.

Rustic beauty surrounds this house in the Valley.

Inside, the living room is a warm and comfortable space with a great stone fireplace, a beautiful view of the yard and a spiral staircase to an upstairs room.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography is a natural to use for architectural photography (especial interiors). In this case it was done without a flash but I used a tripod, cable release and took seven exposures to create each of the images. It’s a technique where you blend the different exposures using a process called tonemapping. In this way I was able to utilize more correct exposures to show the detail in the house as well as the much brighter details outside within one image.
