The Bicycle and the Door

This is a building on Tombstone Canyon, an uphill road in Bisbee AZ, pretty much across the street from the old auto garage with the VW bus painted on the garage’s door. You can only image the assortment of signs that used to be attached to that wall. To me, it’s an interesting building with kind of a mysterious history. It is inhabited as I watched a man unlock the door and go inside. What do you think it used to be?

There is a building on the west side the Mission San Xavier del Bac, 10 miles from Tucson. It is a domed chapel with a belfry that was used as a mortuary chapel. It sits alone alongside an open cortile. I processed this photo using some special black and white grain techniques and gave it the sepia toning.

Red and White

The fender and bumper of the old Richfield truck in Bisbee, AZ

This is a close up of the right front fender and bumper of the Richfield Truck I posted a few weeks ago. I liked the detail and texture in the metal and paint. I believe this old Dodge truck was originally painted black then repainted red. The bumper had been painted white. Over the years, the paint has worn off in some very interesting ways and it makes this truck a work of art by itself. The truck was parked behind the Shady Dell Motel in Bisbee, AZ, that virtual treasure trove of things to photograph.

1954 DESOTO Firedome – Memory Lane Classic Cab

This is a photograph I took of this 1954 DESOTO FIREDOME used as a Taxi and parked outside the office of the Shady Dell Motel in Bisbee, AZ. It’s amazing how being at this motel and its diner are like walking back in time. I did some research on Google and this appears to be a 1954 Desoto Firedome model, a great old car.

Here is a color version of this image:

An old bus used as a motel room at The Shady Dell Trailer Park in Bisbee, AZ

This old bus sits as a motel room at the Shady Dell Motel in Bisbee Arizona. When Cathleen and I spotted it there with the name “Randy’s White Elephant” painted on its side, we both got the idea that I shoot this photo and post it for our good friend “Ranger Randy”. We thought he’d like it. Randy writes a blog entitled “Ranger Randy… Reflections From an Amateur Naturalist”. His recent post is entitled “Queenmakers.” If you’re interested in bees and bee behavior, check it out at this link.
