Reflections

Reflections is Acrylic Resin sculpture by artist Bruce Beasley of Oakland, CA in 1977.

While at the Steinbeck Center in Salinas recently, I walked into one of the side exhibit rooms because there was a photography exhibit in there. Walking in, I was visually captured by this large acrylic sculpture on display the room. I walked around it and got up close and could see so many different reflections in the piece. The colors of the beautiful wood interior room structure and the art work on the walls were being distorted by the angles in the acrylic.I knew I had to photograph it up close to capture the different reflections flowing through the piece. It was so much fun to spend time looking at it from many different angles. The image above is just one of the many shots I took.

I also wanted you to be able to appreciate the art in its entirety which is the image below:

Wild turkey mother and her poults.

Wild turkey mother and her poults.

We have several families of Wild Turkeys living at Carmel Valley Ranch where we live. We see them often on the hillside behind our home. They’ve recently had babies, “Poults” and this family was behind the house the other day. Until the Poults can fly, they hide under the mother for protection. In this shot, these Poults were just emerging from beneath their mother. A short time later another 6 to 8 of them also emerged from under the same mother.

IMAGAYAWAKI PAN

Imagawayaki Pan

Imagayawaki-SignImagawayaki, also known as Goza-Soroh is a Japanese dessert. It’s made with batter cooked in a special pan, heated from below and filled with sweet azuki bean paste, custards, meat or vegetable filling. On a recent trip to LA, Cathleen and I went to LA’s Japantown with some of her cousins and her aunt, Uta. We decided to have a little afternoon treat and green tea and stopped at a small shop where they make Imagawayaki. I thought the pan they used was beautiful, made of copper with the circular shapes perfectly pressed into the copper. The ones ready to serve are lined up behind the pan. Unfortunately they weren’t preparing them while we were there. I went online and found a short, fun to watch, YouTube video of how they make the Imagawayaki. But I did get to eat one – very yummy!

This is a beautifully restored 1933 Ford Coupe. The red color was outstanding and the engine was beautiful with a lot of chrome. It was pristine.

Here’s the car I dreamed of having when I was 20 years old. I eventually did get a used Corvair, but not a convertible. This image was shot at the Tower Classic Car Show in Fresno, California.
