Selkie II

On July 4th we took a wonderful 2-hour boat trip at Elkhorn Slough in Moss Landing on the Central Coast of California. We took this trip with Whisper Charters and Captain Brian Ackerman was the skipper. His boat was named the Selkie II. It holds six people plus the Captain very comfortably. He is very knowledgeable about the history of the Slough and the wildlife and plants that inhabit it. It was a very interesting and fun experience aboard his boat. Oh, about the boat, the slough is very calm and the deck of the boat is low to the water. There was plenty of room to move around to get the best “shot” for photography. We brought our lunch and there was complimentary water, tea and coffee on board.

He will also rent out the boat specifically for photo trips for a reasonable hourly rate and I’m looking forward to doing that later this year with one of my good friends also interested in photography. With fewer people, it will be easy to bring a tripod and set it up without being in anyone’s way or being a hazard. I recommend Captain Brian and Whisper Charters very highly and you can find out more by clicking on the link above.

Exciting News

Light on the Sahara

Light on the Sahara

Yesterday, I received some very exciting news. One of my images was selected to hang in the Carmel gallery of the Center for Photographic Art (CPA) as part of the 2015 Member’s Juried Exhibition. This is the image (but without the watermark) that I entered into the competition. It was taken just before sunset in the Sahara Desert in Morocco. When I converted it to black and white, it made the light, shapes and shadows very dramatic and I loved how it looked. You can click on it to enlarge it. Opening night for the exhibit will be Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 5pm and it will stay up until September 19, 2015. The Juror was Richard Gadd, the Director of the Weston Gallery in Carmel and former director of the Monterey Museum of Art. Here is a link to the CPA.

imagination – noun • the ability of the mind to be creative or resourceful

I want to thank you for your support of my photography activities as I’ve worked to improve my skills creating photographic images. I call them images because they represent not only what I see when shooting the photograph, but how I see it and how I would like you to see it. To me, these images are my artistic creations. Sometimes they represent exactly what I am seeing and sometimes they are my artistic interpretation of what I am seeing.

I want to share the best of them with you. I’ve created a portfolio website to display my best images at www.mscgallery.com. In addition, this Blog (www.martycohenphotography.com) will continue to exist and I will post my new images here a well as other topics and stories of interest. Click the button below to go to the newly designed Portfolio Website, and then explore the images. Please share the website with people you think will enjoy seeing my work.
