Yesterday we went down to the beach in Pebble Beach to take our dog, Lulu, for a walk. I brought my camera and tripod with me because there was a very specific type of image I wanted to create. It required relatively calm surf and wispy clouds. I pretty much got the surf I wanted, although there were very few clouds and they were only low on the horizon. Still, I’m very happy with the results.
This photo was taken with a Canon EOS 6D, EF24-105mm f/4L IS lens, 30 sec at f/22, ISO 100 with a 10-stop ND filter,captured on a Lexar 400x SDXC UHS-1 memory card.

Wow! So beautiful, mystical and tranquil.
Thanks Christina…
It’s beautiful. You can almost hear the waves crashing.
Thank you…
You are so optomistic – it seems hard to get a photo exactly as planned. It looks great to me, but do you often get what you want?
To me, I don’t seem to be that optimistic and I often do not get what I want (maybe even very often) with my photography. But, interestingly, one of my neighbors, a very optimistic person, sent me an email reply rather than posting a comment. In it she said, “Really beautiful. Maybe this turned out better than had you gotten your original intent.” And, I am very happy with how it turned out.
Nice image. Seems lil it would have been a shorter exposure than 30 sec. Love the feeling of motion in the ocean, though!
That’s the beauty of using the 10-stop neutral density filter (very dark) on a daytime shot. It allows you to have a much longer exposure and get the blurring and smoothing of the water and clouds.
Wonderful Picture ! ! ! you know exactly what to capture ! Congratulations.
Thank you Elisabete.
Incredible!! You can really see the power of the ocean. You are amazing.
Thanks Sweetie…
